NORWOOD, MA — Crane Merchandising Systems plans to launch a new business unit, Crane Payment Solutions,
at the 2006 National Automatic Merchandising Association National Expo in Orlando, FL.
The new division brings together a number of related CMS businesses, including NRI, CashCode and
Telequip. All are strong technology-driven brands in the payment systems market. Also slated for preview
in booth 829 is an advanced bill recycling solution.
CMS has built its payment solutions capability through internal growth and strategic acquisitions, said
president Brad Ellis. “NRI, a European leader in coin validation systems, has always been a part of
National Vendors,” he explained, adding that a standalone coin mech could not compete in the U.S. market
without a companion bill validator. “In 2005, we began marketing the NRI E-66 coin acceptor with JCM’s
Optipay, an innovative payment solution with a bill recycler. Our overwhelming success with Optipay –
whose customer acceptance has well exceeded expectations – led us to invest in our own bill validation
capabilities with the 2006 CashCode acquisition.”
Ellis observed that the recent acquisition of Telequip has further expanded CMS’s payment solutions
opportunity. “Forming an integrated Crane Payment Solutions organization was a logical next step to
capitalize upon the technical synergies available through each of the three businesses,” he pointed out.
The Payment Solutions team will work closely with the Vending Solutions group to provide improved
compatibility of equipment, vending management software and payment systems, Ellis reported.
Chuck Reed of Crane Payment Solutions added that Crane has “a number of new payment solution innovations
in the pipeline that draw on each company’s historic strengths.” The new division thus looks forward to
being a substantial solution provider to this important segment of the vending market, he said.
